Overview

An introductory account of the intellectual sources behind Integral [+] Facticity, centring on Matt McManus’s writing, the work of Michael Brooks and emerging debates about the next left. The accompanying notes identify further reading on progressive politics, integral thought and Brooks’s legacy; their inclusion does not establish that every source was discussed in the recording.

Description

What led me to begin Integral [+] Facticity? Part of the answer lies in a trail of reading that began with Matt McManus's two-part essay The Rebirth of History for Merion West. Through McManus, I encountered the late Michael Brooks and his ideas about the next left. This short opening episode introduces those influences and the questions that prompted the podcast.

The accompanying notes extend that reading trail through McManus's tribute to Brooks, Luke Savage's essay in Jacobin, Myth and Mayhem: A Leftist Critique of Jordan Peterson, and the work of Matthew D. Segall, Jeremy D. Johnson and Guy du Plessis. They offer an introduction to the sources behind the series, rather than a complete account of its future direction.
